Saturday May 21: Dissonance and Consonance:
Harmonic Analysis and Discussion of Chip Music and it’s Many Forms
Location: Eyebeam Common Area

This workshop will start off with a crash course in basic music theory. The aim will be to cover some interesting, advanced theories and concepts. As things move along, we will take some music theory examples and reinterpret them into a context that relates to chip music and its artistic practices. We will also examine some well known chip tunes, take them apart, look at their chord progressions, tonal approaches, rhythmic organization, song structure, etc. Through this process, we’ll try to gain a better understanding of what chip music is and gain some song writing tricks through the analysis of some awesome tunes. We’ll also look at how chip music has changed over the years – the evolution from buzzer music to Blip Festival.
